Acting and Identity

Here is something shocking, that the whole world will find untrue or unreal. I Mehtab Virk identify myself as an active student of Acting , Brain chemistry and Psychology. I have been obsessed with these concepts since last 5 to 6 years. Now to make it clear these observations are a result of my personal journey and experimentation therefore it's a take it or leave it deal.

So to begin with , most of us are familiar with the concept of Manifestation and we try to apply it in our daily life. Some of us see some results with it and some of us discard it as nothing more than Vodoo shit with no more significance than tarot cards or something. But there is another mid-section of opinionated people about this subject : which i most proudly fall under. If we really try to understand the science behind these concepts , it turns out to be rather comprehensible and understandable. From the concept of Carl Jung's collective consciousness and many other scientists like Nikola Tesla or Einstein finding a relationship between their own thought vibration resonating with the vibration of world around them. The brain communicates in electrical and chemical signals with the body and the world around , while a part of brain is like a bluetooth device connected to all the devices around which in turn is referred as Collective Unconscious ( you know when you just have a feeling of being connected to everyone and everything like the soul of the world or universe experiencing itself). It can be concluded that thoughts and beliefs have the power to change the chemistry of our brains , which in turn is connected through the collective unconsciousness to the chemistry of other brains. Its mere science at it's best.

Molecules , sound waves , germs ; all would have been considered as made up concepts from a madman some centuries ago which are real but  we cannot fathom their existence without knowing the science behind it. So without putting my case any better than this we shall move on to my next statement , which is that.

We exist because we can think. As a famous philosopher I don't care remembering the name of once said , " I think , therefore I am ".

It's a pretty obvious point but most people seem not to get it anyway , which is that we are made up of our beliefs about ourselves. Imaginative realities as we call them. If a thousand people decide to follow the same cultural rituals , they start identifying with it and anything outside that ritual is nothing short of a threat to their existence. While all of them are essentially just human beings, this common belief in an imaginative reality has more power than most of the things you can think of.

My point here is that I over time as an actor evolved into a person who could associate and dissociate with different realities on a very deep level. Now this is what we can call coming close to schizophrenia or multiple personality disorder, would be your first instinct.  But hear me out a bit more , trust me I'm a smart guy. When you develop a technique of disassociating with your reality and your attachments and entering into another imagined association or attachment , it can lead to literal change in the physical and chemical shape of the brain. Which in turn can alter a form of your reality. You must have heard many stories of actor celebrities whining about losing their mental health during preparation of a character and then needing psychological support (mostly only good actors). or that they brought their characters home which in turn turned out to be problematic for their family and friends. It is only because their imaginative reality about themselves is altered. If a muslim boy who has been raised by a hindu family by mistake , get into a fight with a muslim friend because of different religious views would be acting out of his reality or would that be his real imaginative reality. Breaking old patterns and taking on new patterns on the level of your very consciousness requires more than what we can imagine, but con artists or good liars or actors evolve that skill into almost a second nature.
